Steve “Speed” Chengelis, 91, of Salem and formerly of Boardman Passed away at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Mr. Chengelis was born in Youngstown, Ohio on December 28, 1920 the son of the late Pericles and Ourania (Zoes) Chengelis; he was an Army-Air Corps Veteran and the former Vice President of Industrial Mining company. He was of the Greek Orthodox Faith; a former member of the Salem Golf Club and the Eagles. Survivors include his son Tom (Brenda) Chengelis of Salem, two grandchildren; Dr. Nicole (Dr. Jesse) Chandler of Greensboro, NC, Steve (Sarah) Chengelis of Charlotte, NC, and three great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lorena (Benedict) Chengelis in July of 2009 and four brothers. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 30th at 11:00 AM at Brown Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Jason Vickery officiating and Military Honors by the Salem Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 29th from 6-8PM. A Private burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Boardman on Wednesday.
