U.S. Veteran

James “Jim” Lawrence DeAtley, 65, of Salem and formerly of Columbiana past away on January 8, 2013 at Salem Community Hospital. He was born in Salem on August 25, 1947, the son of James and Velma (Foray) DeAtley. Jim was a graduate of Columbiana High School and was a US Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam, he retired from Elger and also drove School Bus for Crestview and Salem Schools. He was Catholic by faith, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling where he had several 300 games and awards for his hunting. Jim believed in helping people when he could and even in death he donated to Life banc so that others would benefit from him. Survivors include his Mother Velma DeAtley of Salem, his wife Karen (Sturgeon) DeAtley of Salem, a son Bradley DeAtley of Pennsylvania, three daughters; Jennifer Crawford of Leetonia, Belinda (Lonnie) Sadler and Rachael Macry both of Salem, two brothers; Kenneth and Dennis DeAtley, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother Ron and an infant son Michael. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Brown Funeral Home in Salem at 8:00 PM with Military Honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6-8 PM prior to the service. Burial will take place a Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery in North Lima.
