DAMASCUS- Bergen L. Bryan, 32, of Damascus, passed away peacefully Sunday evening at the Cleveland Clinic in the loving arms of her husband. Bergen was born July 3, 1984 in Salem, the daughter of Belinda (Hillyer) Bauman and the late David Bauman. She was a 2003 graduate of West Branch High School, where she was a 4 year member of the tennis team and played clarinet in the marching and concert bands. Bergen was also very involved with the high school yearbook, serving as editor.  Her loving personality, selflessness, and desire to help others led her to pursue her dream career as an educator. She attended the University of Mount Union, and in 2007, Bergen graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  Bergen began her career as a Kindergarten teacher with West Branch Local Schools soon after graduation, and for the last five years devoted her time to her students at Damascus Elementary School.  It was in the classroom that her fun, innocent, and playful personality was able to flourish. Her loving and elegant nature, genuine caring personality, and willingness to put her own needs aside enabled her to impact countless lives and leave the most positive impact on her students. To her, Bergen treated every one of her students as if they were her own. Her calm and understanding demeanor, soothing voice, and gentle touch helped shape countless children over the years. Her dedication to her passion for teaching was evident in that she was fulfilling her life-long dream of being an educator. Bergen always had a smile on her face, no matter what she was up against. Her positive attitude and devotion to her faith made her a great role model and mentor to many. But most importantly, she was loved and respected by all who had the great honor of calling her a friend. She would undoubtedly and very modestly put her own wants and needs to the side to go out of her way to accommodate and help out anyone any way she could, never expecting anything in return. Bergen will be remembered as an amazing and loving wife, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. Her smile, fun spirit and sense of humor will always be in our hearts.

Bergen leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband, rock, and best friend, Nicholas A. Bryan, whom she married December 19, 2015 at Damascus United Methodist Church; her mother Belinda Bauman of Damascus; her sister, Brinley Bauman of Damascus; her mother-in-law Christine Hornyak and fiancée Hobie Butcher of Salem;  her father-in-law Ronald Bryan of Canfield; her sister-in-law Erin Bryan and brother-in-law Christopher Bryan, both of Canfield; her uncle Bill (Rhonda) Bauman of Salem;  her aunt Bretta (Robert) Ruse of Rossford, Oh.; her grandmother Charlotte Hillyer of Lisbon; and countless family and friends and acquaintances whose lives Bergen has impacted.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dave Bauman, with whom she is reunited with in heaven; her paternal grandparents, William and Norma Lee Bauman; and maternal grandfather Willard Hillyer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Damascus United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Fraser officiating. The family will receive friends held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, August 5, 2016 at Damascus Methodist Church and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.
