Bernice V. (Aiken) Wheeler

February 17, 1924 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Bernice V. Wheeler, age 93, of Damascus, passed away on June 9, 2017 at Crandall Medical Center. 

She was born Feb. 17, 1924 in Speidel, Ohio to Robert and Dorothea Aiken.

Bernice graduated from Bethesda High School, Class of ’42, and then moved to Butler, PA where she worked her way up to became the Chief Operator for the People’s Telephone Company of Butler. Enjoying a large group of friends and co-workers during the War years and into the early 1950’s, she traveled extensively with the “girls”, never missing a chance to explore new places. She remained in Butler until marrying the love of her life, Robert D. Wheeler.  Married on Aug. 14, 1954, they immediately moved to San Angelo, TX where Bob was stationed with the U. S. Air Force, returning to Ohio upon completion of his military service. 

A member of Damascus Friends Church, she was active in the Fidelis Sunday School class and Friends Together as well as the Merry Mixers.  Bernice loved gardening, reading and traveling—enjoying trips to Branson, Nova Scotia and most of the 50 states. 

Survivors include her son, Craig (Judy) Wheeler of Damascus; daughters, Vivian LeAnn Krosnick of Northfield, Ohio and Mary Ann (Matthew) Roberson of Hampton, New Jersey; five grandchildren; Jessica (Luke) Wallace, Julie (Andrew) Frankhouser, Brian Krosnick, Ryan Roberson and Jacob Roberson; one great-granddaughter, Scarlett Elise Wallace and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob who died January 12, 1986, her sister, Phyllis (Kenneth) Humphrey, and her grandparents, Leona and Lee Rush Craig with whom she lived as a child. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 25th at 1:15 PM at Damascus Friends Church with a time of visitation from 12:45-1:15 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Damascus Friends Church at PO Box 205, Damascus, Ohio, 44619 or the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio, 44512.
