Welcome to the memorial page for

Harold W. Carr

October 20, 1931 ~ October 23, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Harold W. Carr, 85, of North Benton, passed away peacefully after a brief illness.  He was surrounded by his family and friends.  Harold was born on October 20, 1931 in Kusooth, WV to Fred and Estella (Frye) Carr.

He worked as a millwright for 39 years at Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products in Alliance, OH where he could weld or repair anything that was needed and then as a supervisor at Control Services & Installation in Akron, OH working throughout the Akron and Cleveland area, as well as working on a school renovation project in Michigan, construction projects in Columbus, OH, and a complete renovation of the Cleveland Masonic Temple.  He oversaw renovation projects and managed maintenance crews at Kent City Schools, Cuyahoga County Youth Home, and Portage County Facilities until his retirement in 2005. Harold was a member of Sebring Masonic Lodge F&AM #626 as well as a 32nd Degree Mason as a member of The Akron Valley of Scottish Rite AASR.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was proud of his service and took every opportunity to meet and talk with other members of this esteemed group, especially those currently serving. He was an active member of the Damascus United Methodist Church.

Family who loved him and friends who knew him could always count on a smile, a joke or a cheerful story. His passions in life were loving his grandchildren who, in turn, adored him as well, especially taking rides with him on his four-wheeler; and spending time with his friends in the deer shanty. He loved to travel throughout his life, whether it was fishing on Rice Lake in Canada, vacationing in Hilton Head, or making trips back to West Virginia with his siblings.  He was also a life-long Cleveland Indians fan.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine (Hands) Carr, sons Jeffrey (Kaylie) of Cary, NC, and Brian (Shawna) of Alliance, OH, six grandchildren, Ethan Carr, Jacob Carr, Kelsey Carr, McKennan Carr, Zachary McCord, and Bryson McCord.  He is also survived by Beatrice Criss, Delorice Boyd, and Alton Carr.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and Clifford, and a sister, Anne.
