Otis P Vance

September 7, 1925 ~ January 12, 2016 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Otis P. Vance, 90 of Alliance passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Community Care Center of Alliance. Otis was born in Whitmer, West Virginia on September 7, 1925, the son of the late Charles and Mary (Lambert) Vance. Otis served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1946.  He worked for the Crane Company (Alliance Ware) for 17 years beginning  January 2, 1947 and worked Independently as Vance Construction. Otis started working for Graber Plumbing and Heating in October 1968 and started Vance and Sons Plumbing and Heating in May 1976, which he sold to his sons in 1990. Otis officially turned in his uniforms in 1998.

Otis was a member of the Alliance American Legion and loved scrapping. He was a faithful member and trustee at Alliance Baptist Temple working with the former Rev. Lawrence Oney from the time of his salvation in 1964, then with Pastor George Crawford at First Baptist Church of Atwater. His philosophy was “To work for the Lord until the end”.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Alberta Court, children Nancy (Gene) Rice, Ronald P. Vance, Leonard (Karen) Vance, Linda (Dave) Murphy, Kay (Larry) Salinas, Charles (Sharon) Vance, Jimmy (Paula) Vance  and Tim (Jody) Vance, step children Alan (Karen) Court, Larry (Debbie) Court and Terry (Brenda) Court, 32 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Fayetta Ware and Rachel Loar.  Otis was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years Virginia Vance, daughter in law Darlene Vance, grandson Clifton Vance, great grandson Reilly Gindlesperger, two step-children Yvonne Wright and Thomas Court. He was also preceded in death by a brother William Harold Vance and two sisters Marcella Barrett Mills and Betty Arbogast.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Jody Hill officiating.  Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
