He was a United States Air Force Veteran and enlisted on May 31, 1962. While in the Air Force he was a GND Radio Operator and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1966. Ron was employed at American Electric Power for 18 years; he also worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer for 8 years while also working with his brother-in-law, Ted Anthony and Sons Cleaning. However the position he valued most was taking care of his family.

Ron leaves behind his cherished wife of 49 years Vickii (Wilkes) Newnham and four children, his daughter Marcie Newnham (Tom) Jewett, daughter Cynthia (Don) Stillion, daughter Hilda (Paul) Sogorka, who helped take care of him and make him smile in his final days, as well as his son William (Katia) Wilkes, who lives out of state. Ron is survived by 20 grandchildren, including his grandson Blake Williams who he considered a best friend and buddy, and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind, four sisters, his cousins Ben (Lynel) Chandler, Johnny (Jo) Western, and his longtime friends and basketball teammates Paul Hershberger who was always willing to help when needed and Andy Ahijevych who kept the community updated on how Ron was doing during his illness. He was welcomed with open arms by his brother Fred who preceded him in death.

Per Ron's wishes, no services will be held at this time. However a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ron's honor to Aultman Hospice in care of The Aultman Foundation, 2600 Sixth Street SW, Canton, OH 44710.
