Sylvia Davenport Obituary

Sylvia Davenport, 80, beloved Aunt, was called to her eternal resting place on April 19, 2019. She entered this world on August 20, 1938, in Alliance, OH, born to Harold and Rose Davenport of Sebring. She is survived by her Nephew Denny and his wife Trish of Oklahoma City. Great Niece Heather Logan and her husband Zach of Round Rock TX.and their children Prestley, Aubrey and Grady. And great-nephew Eric Davenport of Fernandina Beach Fl. And many other extended family members. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Rose Davenport of Sebring and her brother Jim Davenport of Sebring.

Sylvia graduated from Sebring High School and the following school year began her career as an administrative assistant at Sebring Junior High and High School. For many years she was a fixture and figurehead at the school (someone had to keep the Superintendent in line) until she retired to stay at home to take care of her Mom, Rose. Sylvia and Rose were often found enjoying tea (that's the English coming out) and cookies together. Sadly Rose passed away in 2002 and when that happened not only did Sylvia lose her Mom she also lost her best friend.

Sylvia was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Alliance. It was here that she discovered a passion for plastic canvas needlepoint. She and Rose would volunteer at the church and produce items of their expertise in mass (mostly crosses for Christmas and Easter). She took a lot of pride in being able to share something that she enjoyed doing so that others could have something beautiful.

Sylvia ate, slept and breathed Cleveland Indians baseball. She never missed watching a game of her boys. She was not a fair weather fan but a TRUE DIE HARD FAN! You had better not call her while a game was on TV because she would not answer the phone. She would wait until the game was over and call you back.

She also loved to play golf and often times her and her group of friends could be found out on the course together. She also liked to play with her brother Jim when he was available. Anytime that her nephew Denny came to town you could usually find the two of them out at the par 3 together having a good time. Funny how when they would come home neither of them said who won. In fact, it is rumored that they didn't even keep score but I find that hard to believe because they were both fiercely competitive.

Sylvia will be sorely missed by many. But we also know that she is in a better place, and she is once again sitting alongside of her Mom (probably having tea together) just like old times. Aunt Sylvia we do love you and you will be forever in our hearts.
